SPECT(Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography)

Measuring brain blood flow by counting the uptake of radioisotope (radiating gamma ray) into the brain after intravenous injection.

Drugs being used in our hospital now are ¹²³I-IMP(N-isopropyl-¹²³I-p-iodoamphetamine) and ^99mTc-HM-PAO(^99mTc-d,l-hexamethyl-propyleneamine oxime).
Also, we examine how much the brain blood flow increases when diamox, a drug which dilates brain arteries, is injected intravenously. Measurement of brain blood flow show us functional aspects of the brain which we can not get by CT and MRI.
